This may be one of my new favourite breakfasts🍓 As you may know, I am a big fan of avo toasts but I think I have a secret affection for ricotta as well🤭
Ricotta cheese is famous for its inclusion in many desserts and main dishes in Italy. It is essentially made from whey protein that has been acidified and heated. In fact, some people consider it as one of the healthiest cheese varieties since it contains all 9 essential amino acids, and is high in protein, calcium and selenium, and low in fat (compared to other cheese varieties).
Possible health benefits
- Bone health– since ricotta is great source of calcium, an important mineral that is part of the formation and metabolism of bone.
*Calcium deficiency can result in softening of the bones, bone loss and rickets. - High in protein– there are approximately 14g of protein in 1/2 cup of ricotta. Protein is essential for our health, especially growth and development, immunity, muscle strength and hormonal balance.
*Deficiencies can lead to many health issues such as hair loss, stunted growth, impaired immunity.
There are more health benefits linked to ricotta such as weight loss and lowering blood pressure. However, these are things influenced by many more factors and I would prefer not mentioning them because many people will go and rely on ricotta for their weight loss which is not the point here.
